A Line Chart is what you normally see on the free online broker Robinhood’s app. It’s like a bird's eye view, plotting the closing prices.
It provides a clear picture of the overall trend.
The Area Line Chart is similar, but there’s an area below the line that is colored a specific color based on Bullish or Bearish energy, based on the broker you use. For the free online broker Webull it’s Green and Red.
Fundamental Traders can use the Baseline chart, which is a line chart that allows you to select a base level, for instance a price that a trader deems “fair value” price.
Long term investors and Fundamental Traders use this to see how far away the current stock price is from where they think it should be valued, to determine potential trades or risks.
The Candlestick Chart shows candles that represent periods in time, based on the timeframe you’re looking at. Each candle on the 1 minute chart represents 1 minute, on the daily chart it’s 1 day, on the 5 Minute chart it’s 5 minutes and so on and so forth.
Candles have a 'wick' at the top and bottom representing the highest and lowest price. The 'body' in between shows the opening and closing prices.
Heikan Ashi candles are calculated based on averages, as opposed to opens, closes, highs and lows. So they tend to show smoother trends than regular candle charts.
So, remember, understanding these charts is like deciphering a stock's language. We have Free Trading Classes that go over Candles in detail in our Discord, as well as a Premium Class going over 40 different candle patterns as part of our 14 Lesson New Traders Series.
