On January 1, 2022 Winnie-the-Pooh became public domain. Since then we've seen creative retellings of the beloved bear, such as fan-made horror film "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey", online games, Pooh-themed learning material, merchandise made by independent creators, and comics. Well here we are one year later, and Mickey Mouse is the one in the public domain hot-seat. The "Steamboat Wille" variation of Mickey Mouse entered US public domain January 1, 2024. This comes 95 years after its release. In the past 3 days we've already seen a first-person shooter video game trailer featuring "Steamboat Willie" characters, an NFT collection that has already done over $1.5 million in volume, and even a movie trailer.

First-Person Shooter Video Game: "Mouse"
Fumi Games dropped a gameplay trailer of its first-person shooter game inspired by "Steamboat Willie". The release date is not set, but it is reportedly set to come out on Steam in 2025. In the trailer players can eat cheese (possibly to heal), drop pianos on enemies, wind-up their fist to deliver a cartoon-like punch, shoot from finger guns, collect baseball cards, and throw dynamite. The trailer doesn't make any direct references to Steamboat Willie or Mickey Mouse, the way the game is designed, the characters, the fact the trailer was released the day that "Steamboat Willie" became a public domain, and the fact that the game is called "Mouse" gives one a strong reason to believe that Fumi Games is using the newly available IP. Some twitter/X users assumed that Mickey Mouse will be revealed as part of the game later on. "This game can literally use Mickey Mouse now," @AntFaiellaArt commented. "Won't be surprised if he actually makes an appearance now as a final boss or even DLC". "It's not too late to just make Mickey Mouse the main antagonist," @MangaDungeon said on X.
Horror-Based Mickey Mouse Video Game: "Infestation 88"
Fumi Games weren't the only ones to drop a video game trailer, Nightmare Forge Games also dropped a "Steamboat Willie" inspired video game trailer of an upcoming horror game. "Infestation 88" is a co-op survival horror game starring the "Steamboat Willie" version of Mickey Mouse. He is shown chasing players down hallways as they try to end a rodent infestation. They are hoping for a release date of later this year, also available on Steam.
Horror Movie: "Mickey's Mouse Trap"
Mickey Mouse is going for lovable iconic mouse to murderer in "Mickey's Mouse Trap". Set to release in March, the film takes place in an arcade based around a group of teenagers who are hunted by a man wearing a black and white Mickey Mouse mask. Check out the trailer below, what do you think of the first ever Mickey Mouse film outside of The Walt Disney Company.
Steamboat Willie NFT
On January 1st 12:00 AM EST Alexander Taub (@ajt on X) tweeted that he set up a Manifold mint for the original image of Steamboat Willie.
The mint was exactly midnight, and is a collection of 2,000 NFTs that minted at .001 ETH ($2). The floor price (the cheapest one currently up for sale on the open market) is .0795 ETH ($176.78), which is a 8,700% gain per NFT minted.
Winnie The Pooh, Mickey Mouse, Who Is Next For Disney?
It's important to note that Mickey Mouse is not public domain, just the "Steamboat Willie" variation. The Walt Disney Company will lose copyrights to Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and early versions of Pluto in the coming years. They will also lose the rights to Captain Marvel in 2034 and Captain America in 2036. It will be interesting to see these characters portrayed outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

How Our Exclusive In-House Analysts Are Trading $DIS
We love Mickey Mouse, The Avengers, Star Wars, Maui, and the rest of the Disney Universe, however our analyst BTC_Jay is not bullish on $DIS currently.

Observation 1: $DIS has never closed two consecutive yearly candlesticks below the 12 EMA. This year, we are doing exactly that after running into it and rejecting from it. That could be a bearish signal.
Observation 2: 2009 up until 2021 has been only up, with little to no consolidation at all on the way up, which leaves support on the way down.
Option 1: Bearish
Entry: Watching for the price to break above $94.24. Then watching for a 4H close below $94.24 (or strong showing that $94.24 is resistance).
Targets: $85.55, $78.50
Stop Loss: Daily close above $96.61
Option 2: Bearish
Entry: If price breaks above $94.24 and keeps going we can be watching for the price to break above $96.61. Then watching for a 4H close below $96.61 (or strong showing that $96.61 is resistance).
Targets: $85.55, $78.50
Stop Loss: Daily close above $96.61
Option 3: Bullish
Entry: If price breaks above $96.61 we can watch to see if that level flips to a strong support level.
Targets: $103.50, $113+
Stop Loss: $89.51

Option 4: Jay opened a short/bearish position already with a $89.55 average (50% allocated). He is waiting for $79 (Covid low) to flip into a resistance to add the other 50% of his position. StocksBuddy is giving off a bearish signal on the daily chart, and is in the $91.50 range currently, so an entry here or lower would align with Jay's trade idea and StocksBuddy (NFA, always DYOR). His first target for this trade once fully allocated is $60,41. He then expects a bounce back up into the low $70's, then a capitulation wave that brings us back down to the top formed in 1998 and 2000 around the $42.71 mark.

Option 5: Watching for a bearish entry at current levels and playing this down with targets at $85.51, $78.50, $79, $42.71. Stop Loss at $96.25. This would be the most risky of the options.
